Winter Solstice Celebration

We are ready to bring in Winter and give our thanks to the woods for all she brings us and bring her well wishes for the coming year with a Winter Solstice Celebration led by Xtian Stone. Bring a poem or short reading on nature, forests, or something related if you would like to share this as we walk along the path in the woods. Dress for cold, possible mud and walking in the woods. Sunrise Anniversary Walk

Fans of the Greenbelt Forest Preserve enjoyed a special morning walk to commemorate the date Greenbelt City Council voted to pass an ordinance establishing the Greenbelt Forest Preserve, October 27, 2003.

NEW! Community Carve Off, Friday October 24, 5-9 pm, Roosevelt Center

Free pumpkins available for the community to carve for the Pumpkin Walk while listening to the sounds of local bands (Transatlantic Crossing, Local Honey, The Bachelor and the Bad Actress). Contact Melissa Ann Ehrenreich to sign up your group at melissaehrenreich@gmail.com.

 

NEW! Nature Hike, 10-11:30 am, North Woods Tract

Join us for a educational hike in our community forest led by forest and wildlife biologists to learn about the amazing biodiversity in our forest.


Annual Pumpkin Walk, Saturday, October 25, 5:30 - 9:00 pm, North Woods Tract of the Forest Preserve

Take a walk in the woods lined by hundreds of jack o’lanterns carved by our community and be part of a 26-year old tradition! See our beautiful woods as you've never seen them before!

In addition to the above events, this year's Greenbelt Pumpkin Festival is also promoting Halloween and pumpkin-themed events throughout our community of Greenbelt including poetry readings and live music at the New Deal Cafe, Halloween fun at Beltway Plaza and Springhill Lake, a new event at the Aquatic Center--the Greasy Pumpkin-- and more! Greenbelt Labor Day Pollinator Parade Photos


Join the Pollinator Platoon in the Greenbelt Labor Day Parade!

 

The Butterfly Brigade and the Bee Batallion are looking to boost our ranks for our parade marching unit. Get your wings on on join us! We'll be promoting the imporance of pollinators and protecting their habitat. The parade takes place on Monday, September 1 from 10 am to noon and all participants must be in position by 9:45 am.

 

We will also be hosting a parade sign and wing making gathering on Sunday, August 31 at 5:30 pm at 12 H Plateau Place.

In this fun workshop, participants learned how to build a simple native bee home using natural wood and bamboo materials, which they decorated. Materials and tools were provided.

 

Pollinator Walk and Talk Around Buddy Attick Lake

Walkers of all ages enjoyed learning about identifying native bees and bee nesting holes at otwo areas at the lake that were specifically designed to attract pollinators.

The Butterfly Brigade was on hand to share information about pollinator friendly gardens at the Three Sisters Greenbelt Garden Demonstration featuring free dance performances by Alight Dance Theater and a sustainable gardening demonstration by CHEARS (Chespeake Education and Arts Reseach Sociey).
